The homeless situation varies from country to country, as do its causes. All people across the globe can learn a lesson of compassion and act in a manner of service to the planet and our fellow beings. One of the richest countries in the world, America, still has an overwhelming number of homeless. In Los Angeles for example, one of the richest cities in the country, there are an estimated 254,000 people experiencing homelessness each year. 10% have a college education, 20-43% are families, the majority of which are single mothers and 25% being mentally ill. 75-90% were at the poverty level prior to being homeless. And 42-77% are not able to access the public benefits to which they are entitled. |
